Leaf Snuffle Enrichment
Looking for a fun and easy activity to do with your dog this fall? Try using the gifts of nature!
With the leaves changing this time of year, we can have some fun encouraging our dogs to snuffle for snacks.
This helps dogs use their natural superpower, problem solve, and have fun with new smells. Check out the easy directions below.
1. Locate a Dog
If you’re reading this, your probably already have a dog who is in need of enrichment. If not, don’t worry! A friend’s dog will do just fine. Maybe even a rescue pup in need of some attention!
2. Gather a Receptacle
Good receptacles for this activity include baskets, kiddie pools, or cardboard boxes. Anything that is low enough for your dog to reach into with their nose and step inside of is perfect. Just make sure to choose something safe and appropriate for your pup.
3. Rake some Leaves
Gather up some leaves to fill your box with. You want to get enough to layer in a few inches. The more you can layer in, the more fun your dog will have hunting for the goodies inside!
4. Sprinkle in Treats
As you layer in leaves inside your basket, kiddie pool, or box, sprinkle in treats or kibble as you go. Once you have layered in at least a few inches of your leaves, give the box to your dog to enjoy!
